The aggregate industry provides unique challenges for process instrument solutions working within an extremely dirty and dusty environment. A recent project for a local quarry saw a choked stone crusher feed that's level needed to be controlled to ensure optimum operation. Our engineer attended site to assess the situation and talk to the operators to understand their full requirement. Whilst on site a number of possible solutions were discussed that would assist in the operation, help reduce impact and wear on the crusher components whilst automating the process.
The conclusion on the final solution was a common application for level the Siemens Multiranger and XRS5 ultrasonic system (milltronics). Providing a short to medium-range ultrasonic signal and multi-vessel level monitor and controller the customer was able to easily monitor the level ensuring the stone crusher feed was kept at its optimum without over running the operation.
