Radar

Radar level sensors, available in non-contact and guided-wave configurations, utilise the Time-of-Flight principle to measure the distance to a product surface or the interface between two products within a tank.

  • Non-contact radar: Transmits a microwave continuous wave or pulse at a known frequency, which reflects off the surface. The time taken for the round trip is divided by two to calculate the distance.
  • Guided-wave radar: Directs a microwave wave down a rod or rope, reflecting off each surface it encounters. This method measures both the product level and the interface between multiple products.

Applications include:

  • Continuous level measurement in single-product tanks or silos
  • Interface level measurement of multiple products (e.g., oil and water)
  • Open-channel flow measurement
  • Rake control
  • Pump and valve control

Certifications include:

  • ATEX certification
  • FM (Factory Mutual) approval
  • CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approval
  • IEC Ex certification
  • INMETRO approval
  • NEPSI (National Supervision and Inspection Centre for Explosion Protection and Safety of Instrumentation) certification
  • EAC (Eurasian Conformity) certification
  • SIL (Safety Integrity Level) compliance
  • MCERTS accreditation

Communication Output Options include:

  • 0/4 to 20mA analogue signals
  • Digital outputs (relay, PNP, NPN)
  • HART protocol
  • Profibus DP
  • MODBUS
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • I/O-Link
