Clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters are available with both transit-time and Doppler measurement technologies, catering to a variety of flow conditions. These non-intrusive devices measure flow without requiring the removal or disruption of existing pipeline infrastructure, making them highly versatile and efficient.
Transit-time ultrasonic flow meters are ideal for single-phase media with laminar flow profiles. These meters operate using a pair of transducers, each capable of transmitting and receiving sonic pulses. The time taken for these pulses to traverse the pipe is directly proportional to the flow velocity. By factoring in the pipe's characteristics, the volume flow rate is calculated accurately.
Doppler ultrasonic flow meters are best suited for challenging flow profiles, such as those involving slurries, mixed media, or liquids with air bubbles or suspended solids. These meters also use a pair of transducers, but instead of measuring transit time, they detect the frequency shift caused by the moving particles or bubbles within the fluid to determine the flow rate.
Both measurement types are available in portable or fixed installations, offering flexibility based on operational needs. These systems are designed for full-bore flow measurement.
These flow meters are available with certifications for Hazardous Area applications, ensuring compliance with safety standards in challenging environments.
